We are a family owned and operated tourist company offering tours by horse-drawn sleigh along the beautiful Alta River.
Our farm sits just outside of Alta in idyllic surroundings – arctic nature at its best in all directions!
Our tours are designed to give you a peek inside rural life here in arctic Norway: sleigh rides through fabulous scenery, the hearty flavors of northern Norwegian food, and time spent with farmers who have built a life here in the far north.
Flatmoen Farm was founded and first cultivated at the end of the 18th century along the banks of the Alta River.
Back then, Alta was just a tiny village and the farm lay at the edge of the raw wilderness in three of the four compass directions. Today, even though Alta Municipality has grown a lot, the farm is still a quiet place to be.
Though Alta city center may be just 10 minutes away, you’d never know that standing out in a nearby field with beautiful nature in all directions.
And the wilderness… it’s still right next door! Now the farm runs only on stall rentals, but earlier it has been both Beef, sheep and hog production.
I have been around horses since i was 11 years old. I grew up caring for them and working with them, and tourism with horses is a way for me to continue that work and way of life .
I have loved nature all my life. You get a special kind of peace when you sit around the campfire watching the fire burn.
Besides horse sleigh driving, I practice roping and mountain riding, and pretty much everything else you can use a horse to do.

When I was 20, I traveled to the US to practice horsemanship, and I have been riding ever since.
I practice roping, and was once named the Norwegian champion in dummy roping. Now,
I run a stable the way I learned in Montana.

I grew up on a farm in southern Norway, where we operated a riding school. I lived there until 2018, when I relocated to Alta. I am a certified Level 1 Riding Instructor through the Norwegian Horse Centre. Horses have always been a significant passion of mine, and in recent years, I have developed a growing interest in the Norwegian Fjord horse.
My name is Leo, and I work as a guide at Flatmoen, where I have been employed since 2022. I truly enjoy my role, particularly the opportunity to meet new people and work with horses. It’s a job I am passionate about, and I greatly appreciate the chance to share my love for both nature and horses with others.
